Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit the Rajouri-Poonch sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday to review the ongoing anti-terror operations and the overall security situation.
The visit follows a terror attack in the region last week that resulted in the deaths of four Army personnel, including two captains, and injuries to three other soldiers. Earlier this week, Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande visited Poonch to review the security situation.Rajnath Singh landed in Jammu after 11 AM and was received by Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha and senior Army and civil administration officials. Soon after landing, he proceeded directly to the Rajouri-Poonch area via helicopter, sources said.Local Army commanders will brief Singh on the current security scenario. The Defence Minister is also scheduled to engage with civilians in the region, reaching out to the families of the three civilians who died allegedly due to custodial torture.Sources said that Singh may present government jobappointment letters to the kin of the deceased civilians.A high-level meeting is planned at the White Knight Corps headquarters and Raj Bhavan, where top Army officials, including Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, White Knight Corps Commander Lt Gen Sandeep Jain, and GOC of Romeo Force, will be in attendance.Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha is also expected to meet with Singh during his visit.This marks Singh’s second visit to Rajouri this year, and comes amid the ongoing anti-terror operation in the forest belt of Bafliaz and Dera Ki Gali in the wake of the Poonch terror attack.
