NEW DELHI: Nepalese authorities have confirmed the retrieval of seven deceased individuals, including 3 Indians, from the river into which two buses carrying passengers were pushed by a landslide, as per statements made on Monday. The bodies were discovered at various points along the river’s banks as efforts persist to locate the missing vehicles and their occupants.
Khima Nanda Bhusal, a government official, said that the deceased have been identified and their families have been notified. Among the victims, three are Indian citizens, while the remaining four are Nepalese.
The buses were traveling on the primary highway that links Nepal’s capital to the country’s southern regions when the incident occurred on July 12 morning near Simaltal, approximately 120 kilometers (75 miles) west of Kathmandu.
The landslide affected the Angel bus, and the Ganpati Deluxe. One bus was heading from Kathmandu to Gaur in Rautahat district in southern Nepal and the other was en route to the capital from southern Birgunj. Three passengers from the Ganpati Deluxe managed to escape by jumping out of the vehicle.
