Tel Aviv, Israel – October 24, 2023: On a solidarity visit to Israel today, French President Emmanuel Macron underscored the utmost importance of rescuing hostages currently held by Hamas in Gaza as the primary objective of the ongoing military campaign. Macron also emphasized the critical need to prevent the conflict from spreading further.
Macron’s visit contributed to the growing Western support for Israel in response to the deadly attacks by the Palestinian group on October 7. During his visit, he made a call for a “humanitarian truce,” reflecting the mounting international concern over the civilian casualties in Gaza.
After meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Jerusalem, Macron stated, “The first objective we should have today is the release of all hostages, without any distinction, because it is an appalling crime to play with the lives of children, adults, the elderly, civilians, and soldiers.”
The situation in Gaza has resulted in a tragic loss of human lives, with thirty French citizens among the casualties. Furthermore, at least nine French individuals have been reported missing, and it has been confirmed that at least one French citizen is among the more than 220 people held hostage by Hamas gunmen.
The international community continues to closely monitor and respond to this escalating crisis, seeking solutions that prioritize the safety of civilians and the swift release of hostages.
